MATERIAL: |
Aluminum oxide in acidic solution of stabilizers and catalysts including Cerium and Platinum. |
PROBLEM: |
Scale-up to 3,000 gallon batch required 10 foot long drive shaft on 3600 RPM rotor/stator mixer. Required shaft steady bearing experienced abrasive wear in too short an interval between required maintenance. |
RESULTS: |
Vigorous mixing and re-dispersion of alumina slurry with stabilizers and active components of catalysts coating obtained. Meantime between required maintenance increased to 2x per year on 16 hour day/five day week basis. |
AB MIXER: |
Bottom-entering Model T-5-B Reversible Homogenizer with abrasion resistant 17-4 PH rotor and double mechanical seal with labyrinth and air purge. |
EQUIPMENT REPLACED: |
Top entering high shear mixers. |
BENEFITS: |
80% of annual downtime eliminated, maintenance labor reduced by 75%, replacement parts costs reduced by 2/3 because sturdy and short drive shaft on Model T-5-B does not require a steady bearing in the rotor housing. |
